DEAR COLLEAGUES!

The Institute of Geology, the Karelian Research Centre, RAS,  is holding the Scientific Conference  «Precambrian summit-2025» 11-17 August 2025.

The conference aims to discuss the early history of Earth, a fundamental issue in geology. Key research areas to be covered include:

  1. Architecture and evolution of Precambrian complexes. Similarities and differences with modern analogues.
  2. Precambrian paleoecology: composition and evolution of ancient oceans, atmosphere, surface of continents, and impact of living systems.
  3. Precambrian igneous and metamorphic processes, comparing with modern counterparts.
  4. Early Earth's geodynamics.
  5. Precambrian ore potential.

TIME AND VENUE

Conference sessions will be held:

  • on August 11th and 12th  at the Institute of Geology, Karelian Research Centre, RAS, Petrozavodsk, Pushkinskaya St., 11,
  • on August 13th in a suburb of Petrozavodsk.

Types of presentations:

The conference will feature both oral and poster presentations. The duration of the oral presentation is 20 minutes. Remote participation will be able at the sessions on August 11 and 12.

A Field trip for the conference participants will be conducted from August 14th to 17th to showcase Early Precambrian rock sequences in the western and eastern Karelian Craton, including the Kostomuksha, Khedozero-Bolsheozero, Gimoly, and Vedlozero-Segozero greenstone belts, as well as the Kostomuksha – Sukkozero – Vottavaara – Girvas traverse.

The Field trip will start in Petrozavodsk (participants will be informed of the time and venue). The approximate cost of the field trip is 25,000 to 30,000 roubles, depending on the number of participants.

WORKING LANGUAGE

The working language of the Conference is Russian, but presentations may also be in English.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONFERENCE

Abstracts (up to one page) will be published at the Institute of Geology, Karelian Research Centre's web-site.

The extended abstracts (up to 4 pages) will be published as short communications in a Special Issue of the Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre, RAS after completion of all required procedures according to the journal's rules.
